Fapesp and the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep) announced the opening of public selection for the development of the new Sirius accelerator ring, of the National Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS). The objective of the call for proposals is to support the development, by companies from São Paulo, of innovative products, processes and services for Sirius.

Sirius, one of the first synchrotron light sources considered to be of the 4th generation, is composed of a 3 GeV synchrotron accelerator and 0.28 nm emittance radian. This new source will have brightness comparable to or better than all those under construction or recently built in the Americas, Europe and Asia, allowing Brazil to remain competitive for the next 20 years.

The design and construction of many of the system's main equipment will be Brazilian, as was the case for the first source in operation at LNLS. However, unlike in the past, the involvement of the national industry will be much more intense and fundamental for the success of the new project.

Due to this involvement and the demands of the project, equipment, devices and systems with a high degree of complexity were identified at the time of its conception, not found on shelves or under orders but that could be developed by companies in Brazil.

The resources allocated for funding in the notice are around R$ 40 million, 50% with Finep resources and 50% with FAPESP resources. The total amount requested by each proposal may be up to R$ 1.5 million.

Micro-enterprises, small-sized companies, small companies, medium-sized Brazilian companies, individual companies or simple companies, headquartered in the State of São Paulo and constituted 12 months prior to the launch of the public notice, are eligible as bidders.

Proposals from companies interested in participating in the selection must be delivered by November 7, 2014. The text of the public selection of proposals is published at: www.fapesp.br/8909.
