Proposals for the PIPE will have up to US$ 15 million in Foundation resources

The Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo (Fapesp) launches a new call for proposals to support technological research in micro and small businesses in the State of São Paulo. The total amount made available to finance the projects is R$ 15 million.

To obtain support, scientific and/or technological research must be carried out in micro and small companies, with up to 250 employees, headquartered in the State of São Paulo.

Proposals must be submitted by May 4, 2015, and must contain research projects aimed at the development of products, processes and services, in all areas of knowledge.

One of the PIPE's differentials is that even companies not yet formally constituted can submit proposals, as a “company to be incorporated”.

The selected research projects must be developed by researchers who have an employment relationship with these companies or who are associated with them for their realization.

Another important feature of the PIPE is that the proposing researcher must demonstrate knowledge and technical competence in the subject of the project, but does not need to present any formal title, either undergraduate or graduate.

Proposals can be developed in two stages. First, it is necessary to demonstrate the technological feasibility of the proposed product or process. This is called Phase 1, for which the resources for approved projects reach R$ 200 thousand, for use in up to 9 months. In the so-called Phase 2, the project can receive up to R$ 1 million to develop the innovative product or process, with a term of up to 24 months.

Projects can be registered in any of the phases of the Program, exclusively electronically, through the Management Support System (SAGe), on the FAPESP website. The result of approved projects will be announced on August 7.

Dialogue about support

With the objective of guiding and clearing doubts from those interested in submitting proposals, FAPESP will promote on April 1st, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, at its headquarters in São Paulo, the second edition in 2015 of the Dialogue on Research Support for Innovation in Small Business.

At the meeting, professionals from the technical and scientific areas of the Foundation will be present to guide and talk directly with representatives of companies interested in presenting projects with the potential to achieve innovative results to the FAPESP Innovative Research in Small Companies Program (PIPE).

This is an opportunity for interested parties to understand the characteristics of the program and to take advantage of the deadline to register their projects in the 2nd Bid Analysis Cycle. The meeting at the Foundation's headquarters is held in partnership with the Center for Industries of the State of São Paulo (Ciesp) and the National Association for Research and Development of Innovative Companies (Anpei).
