FAPESP provided R$ 15 million to support innovative ideas presented by companies with up to 250 employees, headquartered in the State of São Paulo, for the 2nd cycle of the 2017 analyzes of the Innovative Research in Small Businesses Program (PIPE). The deadline for submission of proposals is May 2, 2017. Selected projects will be announced on August 31, 2017.

Interested companies must submit research projects that can be developed in two stages. In Phase 1, FAPESP will support up to R$ 200 thousand projects that include the demonstration of the technological feasibility of a product or process, with a maximum duration of nine months. In Phase 2, of product development or innovative process and maximum duration of 24 months, the funds contributed by the Foundation can reach R$ 1 million.

If the bidders have already carried out technological activities that demonstrate the feasibility of the project – corresponding to Phase 1 – they can submit proposals directly to Phase 2.

Companies that have not yet been formally incorporated can also submit proposals – as a “company to be incorporated” –, provided that this formalization takes place after the proposal is approved and before the execution of the Grant Term.

The proposing researcher must demonstrate knowledge and technical competence in the subject of the project, but no formal degree is required, either undergraduate or graduate.

The program does not require counterparts, but the company must commit to offering adequate conditions for the development of the research project during the period of its execution and to make the best efforts for the successful commercialization of the results.
