Facebook generated a global economic impact of US$ 227 billion and 4.5 million jobs around the world, reveals the study by consultancy Deloitte. In Brazil, the platform is responsible for an impact of US$ 10 billion on the local economy and 231 thousand jobs.

According to the study “Facebook's Impact on the Global Economy”, the platform creates economic opportunities primarily for small businesses, application developers and innovative companies.

"Brazil has a large number of small entrepreneurs and most of them have already discovered how they can use Facebook to expand their businesses. Today 1 in 3 small companies has a Facebook page and a good part of them are already able to benefit from the connections to boost sales and also generate jobs", says Alexandre Hohagen, vice president of Facebook in Latin America.

Today there are 91 million Brazilians connected to Facebook every month and 2.1 million small businesses with active pages. The number of Brazilians connected to a small business – who interact with content published by them – reaches 72 million people, or 80% of the monthly basis. The volume is higher than the world average of 70%.

The analysis made by the study considers three pillars:

• Marketing – economic impact for companies that use Facebook for marketing to connect with their consumers, build brand and to drive online and offline sales. In this regard, the study shows that Facebook is responsible for an economic impact of US$ 148 billion and 2.3 million jobs, globally. In this pillar, Brazil is the second best-placed country in terms of economic impact (US$ 8.4 billion) and also in terms of jobs generated (189 thousand), behind only the United States.

• Platform – impact for application developers: Responsible for an economic impact of US$ 29 billion and 660 thousand jobs globally. This area is intended for the impact of third-party products and services that use Facebook as a platform. In Brazil, this ecosystem injects US$ 600 million into the economy and generates 17 thousand jobs.

• connectivity – impact created through mobile device sales and internet connectivity by the desire to access Facebook: US$ 50 billion economic impact and 1.6 million jobs worldwide. Connectivity was responsible for injecting US$ 1.3 billion into the economy in Brazil and generating 25,000 jobs.

In addition to the specific results for Brazil, the study also comments on Facebook's participation in the regional economy. In Latin America, 1.43 million jobs were generated and US$ 21 billion were injected into the local economy. The full study can be found on here.
