Through a partnership between the European Union (EU) and the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC), the ICT Week 2017 was promoted, on December 4th and 5th, in Brasília ( DF). “Innovation and Digital Transformation” was the central theme of the event, which featured presentations on Advanced Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Entrepreneurship, Internet of Things (IoT), Internationalization of Startups and 5G.

The meeting was attended by Brazilians and foreigners from the Government, from teaching and research institutions, application developers and representatives of the ICT industry, among them Gilberto Kassab, Minister of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications; João Gomes Cravinho, Ambassador of the European Union in Brazil; Maximiliano Martinhão, president of Telebrás; Benedicto Fonseca Filho, Ambassador and Director of the Department of Scientific and Technological Issues at Itamaraty; and Thiago Camargo Lopes, Secretary of Information Technology Policy (SEPIN/MCTIC).
 


ABES was present at ICT Week 2017 with Werter Padilha, coordinator of the entity's IoT committee and CEO of Taggen, who made a point of congratulating the organization for the initiative. “I confirmed the existence of convergences and the interest in exchanging experiences and seeking synergies in the areas of research, development and business generation. These are very positive factors for expanding Brazilian competitiveness in the global market”, highlighted the executive.

The National IoT Plan was also addressed in several panels, including the one that addressed the Digital Innovation Ecosystem, which featured speakers from BNDES and McKinsey consultancy, which are part of the consortium leading the project. "The plan is recognized as an important lever for the generation of innovations and development of the ICT industry and other economic sectors. Currently, the group is in a stage of detailing the more than 70 suggested actions and, soon, they will be released new reports and the next steps", informed Padilha, who was part of the IoT committee that participated in the preparation of the plan as a representative of ABES.      

“In addition to technological issues, the debate around the internationalization of startups and the need for companies to prepare themselves, from the beginning, offering quality and innovation to serve the local market and also obtain international reach with their products, services and technologies”, added the executive.
 


Fabio Rua, Director of Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs at IBM Latin America and coordinator of the ABES Regulatory Committee, was one of the speakers on the panel on “Artificial Intelligence and algorithm regulation: challenges to technological innovation and protection of fundamental rights”.
