Smart City Business America Congress & Expo takes place between the 19th and 21st

 

The Smart City Business America Congress & Expo, held by the Smart City Business Institute in partnership with the City Hall of Curitiba and UN-Habitat, between May 19th and 21st at Expo Unimed, Curitiba (PR), proposes a broad discussion on the main challenges of modern metropolises and how to make cities smarter. The main themes of this year's congress will be urban mobility, energy, sustainable construction and urban planning.
 
More than 100 companies confirmed their presence at the event, including Volvo, BYD, Oracle, Copel and Google, which will exhibit their solutions to an expected audience of over 1000 people. Several mayors and representatives of cities such as Campinas, Bragança Paulista, Ribeirão Preto, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Governador Valares, Limeira, Petrópolis and Buenos Aires will also share their experiences in city management.
 
"Smart City Business America opens space for these organizations to demonstrate their potential contribution to smart city solutions, in addition to providing moments of relationship between the public of interest", explains the president of the Smart City Business Institute, Leopoldo de Albuquerque.
 
Also participating in the congress is Elkin Velasquez, director for Latin America and the Caribbean at UN-Habitat, who will lead the Curitiba Protocol, a document that will guide the creation of policies for smart cities. The document will contain the main guidelines to be sent to the Secretariat of the III United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, Habitat III, which will take place in the city of Quito, Ecuador, in 2016. “The Curitiba Protocol aims to provide guidelines and suggestions for creating a national smart cities policy,” adds Albuquerque.
 
Also present will be the mayors Gustavo Fruet, from Curitiba, and João Fortunati, from Porto Alegre; the architect, urban planner and former mayor of Curitiba, Jaime Lerner; in addition to executives such as Alex Torres, Global VP at Moovit; Antônio Lacerda, Senior VP at Basf; Cyro Diehl, president of Oracle do Brasil; Luiz Leonel Vianna, president of Copel; Shigeo Miyahara, president of Toshiba South America; Marcelo Machado, president of Landis+Gyr; Luiz Pimenta, president of Volvo; Foad Shalkhzadeh, president of Furukawa, and Jorge Samek, president of Itaipu Binacional, among others.
