Work was carried out by ACATE in partnership with Neoway

Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo were the only states in the country that registered an increase in the hiring of professionals in IT companies in 2015, the year in which Brazil presented a GDP reduction of 3.8% and stagnation in the technology sector, with a decrease of 0.1% in the number of workers.

Contrary to the country's result, Santa Catarina recorded a growth of 3.6% in the number of employees, while Rio presented an increase of 2.7%, Rio Grande do Sul had an increase of 1.4% and São Paulo 0.7%. The data are part of a study developed by the Catarinense Association of Technology Companies (ACATE) in partnership with the big data company Neoway, which was delivered by the president of ACATE, Daniel Leipnitz, on 10/04, to the Minister of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, Gilberto Kassab, in Florianópolis.

"ACATE wants to be the innovation partner in all sectors of Santa Catarina's economy. We have a strong and differentiated innovation ecosystem and our big dream is, in a period of 10 to 15 years, to make the technology sector the largest industry in the world. state," Leipnitz commented, as he presented the data to more than 300 guests and to federal and state officials.

"We are witnessing a little of what is best in Brazil. Santa Catarina is a national reference in investment in research, development and innovation and this is due to the articulation with universities, but it is also the result of its people and its managers", reinforced the minister Kassab.

ACATE Tech Report analyzed 2015 data regarding average revenue, growth, number of employees, number of companies, among other aspects of the nine states that concentrate the 13 main technology centers in the country. To produce the material, information from public databases such as the Ministry of Labor and Employment, IBGE and the Federal Revenue were cross-referenced. Among the municipalities that hired the most in the IT area, Santa Catarina also stands out: Florianópolis leads the ranking, with growth of 6.9%, followed by Blumenau (3%). Porto Alegre ranked third (2.7% increase), with Rio de Janeiro fourth (2.1%) and another city in Santa Catarina, Joinville, fifth (0.7% growth). São Paulo occupies the sixth position (0.6%).

With an estimated turnover of R$ 11.4 billion, Santa Catarina's technology sector already accounts for approximately 5% of the state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). There are 2,900 IT companies, with around 5,300 entrepreneurial partners and more than 47,000 employees.

Technological centers from all regions of Brazil were highlighted in the study. Campinas (SP) had the highest average revenue, followed by Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Florianópolis. The centers with the highest density of companies (number of IT companies per 100,000 inhabitants) are Belo Horizonte (MG), Brasília (DF) and Recife (PE). Florianópolis, Manaus (AM) and Blumenau (SC) have the highest density of employees.
