Entrepreneurs want the university to offer courses in the technological area

Representatives of the Council of Information and Communication Technology Entities of Santa Catarina (Cetic-SC) and the Secretary of Science, Technology and Economic and Sustainable Development of Florianópolis (SMCTDES), Rui Luiz Gonçalves, met with the acting dean of the University from the State of Santa Catarina (Udesc), Marcus Tomasi, to present the evolution of the sector, as well as propose the creation of a course in the area.

According to Gonçalves, in Florianópolis alone there are around 600 companies operating in the field. “The sector exceeds R$ 1 billion in revenue per year, but we need to improve the management of these companies to grow even more”, summarizes the secretary.

During the meeting, a survey by the Santa Catarina Association of Technology Companies (Acate) was presented that shows the labor deficit in the technological sector. “Even with the sector paying high salaries and growing an average of 20% per year, we have a shortage of professionals. That's why we visited Udesc to evaluate the possibility of a course in this area”, said the president of Acate, Guilherme Bernard.

The superintendent of the Fundação Centros de Referência em Tecnologias Innovadoras (Certi), Carlos Schneider, and the president of the Brazilian Association of Software Companies (Abes), Gerson Schmitt, also spoke about the importance of integrating Udesc in the development actions of Florianópolis as innovation capital.

The dean highlighted that the university is interested in following the socioeconomic trend of the State and that the proposal will be forwarded, but he stressed that the creation of a new course that integrates the areas of Innovation Management, Information Technology and Business Process needs strong support from institutions for its viability. “We created a working group to carry out a study on the course and the necessary investments. Entrepreneurs and the municipality were willing to collaborate,” he said.
