With the support of the MIDI Tecnológico incubator, nascent businesses in the validation phase grew in the first semester and helped warm up the market, through constant hiring and the offer of innovation. In this period of time, companies incubated by MIDI recorded a turnover of more than R$ 3.5 million – which represents 77% of the total turnover of 2016, comparatively. In August, the month in which it completes 19 years of operation, the incubator, based in Florianópolis, also celebrates the 31% increase in the number of entrepreneurs and employees of the startups it supports, in all 165 people starting to integrate the innovation ecosystem.

The forecast for incubated startups is to end 2017 with 7 million in revenue. To this end, MIDI has invested in training entrepreneurs in sales, developing OKRs (Objectives and Key Result) and improving the team through a coaching program.

Kamila Bittarello, technical coordinator of the incubator, attributes the numbers to the differentials of the partnership between the institution and the nascent companies. “The partnership starts with the process of selecting the best teams, since the program applied by MIDI is centered on entrepreneurs. During incubation, the exchange takes place in actions to form high-performance teams and attract business flow”.

The dynamics within the incubator is based on mentoring, courses, consulting and networking. With access to a network of entrepreneurs and investors, entrepreneurs, even at an early stage, are able to connect with different players in their sector and develop solutions in line with market demands. The incubated companies raised R$ 2.5 million in venture capital in the first half, reinforcing the potential of the solutions and skills developed in partnership with MIDI.

From the incubator to the world

One of the differentials of Technological MIDI is the incentive, from an early age, to internationalization. The products and services developed within the incubator are aimed at the global market, therefore, the incubated startups constantly participate in international acceleration programs. Byond, which is developing a solution that helps companies automate operations, for example, was selected earlier this year for the Canadian acceleration program Latam Startups Hub. Gustavo Yugo, partner at Byond, attributes the achievement to the opportunities for growth and development experienced within the incubator. “We understand that the incubation was vital for establishing our market vision and product definition, in this sense MIDI represents a showcase that attracts contacts such as acceleration programs”, highlights Yugo.

Selected four times as the best incubator in the country by Anprotec, MIDI Tecnológico has already helped in the development of 112 technology companies in Greater Florianópolis, which represents around 13% of the sector's enterprises in the region. Through the mentoring and training it offers, the incubator has been concerned for 18 years with developing innovative and entrepreneurial business ideas. The method used also comprises approximation with the market, investors and entrepreneurs, which helps in validating the business, sending companies with high development potential to the market: around 85% of the businesses started in MIDI are still in operation.
