Nadella highlighted how Artificial Intelligence can boost Brazilian competitiveness and help people and organizations achieve more

During his visit to São Paulo, Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, participated in the Microsoft AI+Tour event and shared his vision on the concept of technology intensity, according to which companies and governments must not only accelerate the adoption of technology but also build their own own technological capabilities. “We have a huge opportunity to drive advancements in digital technologies – and specifically in AI – to empower every person and every organization in Brazil to achieve more,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft.

To measure the size of this opportunity in Brazil, Microsoft commissioned a study, conducted by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation. The research investigated the impact of the introduction of AI in key markets in Brazil – Agribusiness, Transport and Communication, Oil and Gas and Public Sector – which together represent 36.4% of the country's GDP. The study revealed that the adoption of AI in these sectors can boost the GDP growth rate by up to 6,43% over the 15-year period.

As part of Microsoft's commitment to promoting education in Brazil, Satya Nadella announced a partnership between Microsoft, SESI and SENAI to offer free AI training to students at these institutions. “We are committed to ensuring that all Brazilians benefit from these advances, which is why today we are announcing a partnership with SESI and SENAI to provide more than 3 million students with training in AI skills, contributing to training. them for the jobs of the future,” concluded Nadella.

Following the presentation, the audience also had the opportunity to learn more about Microsoft's commitment to security and trust. Satya said that trust and security are fundamental in technology and that Microsoft works to make its ecosystem as secure as possible, stressing that users must always be in control of their data. Microsoft welcomes data use regulations such as the European GDPR and LGPD in Brazil and has worked closely with governments and businesses around the world to support the process of compliance with the new regulations.

Brazilian cases

To illustrate the digital transformation in Brazilian organizations, Satya Nadella brought a series of customer success stories from different industries with different applications.

The Rock in Rio music festival, for example, adopted Microsoft Azure to host its website in 2017. The technology infrastructure was developed to receive more than 300,000 simultaneous requests per minute in a single day and the website registered 18 million views in seven days of attractions without any problem. In the health area, Microsoft's AI has helped Hospital 9 de Julho, in São Paulo, to prevent the fall of patients into hospital beds, one of the main causes of lengthening the length of stay, according to the World Health Organization (WHO ). In addition, the Lucy Montoro Public Rehabilitation Institute is using AI and machine learning to make physical therapy more effective for patients. The AACD will also initiate a project for the use of AI for the same purpose. MAN Latin America uses Dynamics 365 in its platform to integrate the sales, marketing and after-sales areas with the dealer network to maximize the customer experience and leverage business opportunities.

The event was also attended by Cristian Gebara, CEO of Telefônica Brasil, who presented Aura, an artificial intelligence platform built in partnership with Microsoft. Completing the list of speakers, the Microsoft AI+Tour was attended by Luís Felipe Salin Monteiro, Secretary of Information and Communication Technology at the Ministry of Planning, who spoke about the Brazilian government's new plans to digitally transform the public sector.
