IBM Turbonomic automation platform uses AI to simplify management and optimize IT resource utilization

With more than 42 million active cards, Elo, one of the main Brazilian payment technology companies, has just announced the results obtained with the adoption of IBM Turbonomic, a dynamic platform for public, private and hybrid clouds, which uses insights generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to manage and optimize performance and cloud expenses in real time. In just six months of implementation, the IBM solution has already delivered an efficiency of 15% over the annual budget foreseen for the environment multicloud company hybrid.

The project began with the demand to create a FinOps office – a cost management model that has become increasingly relevant in companies due to very efficient results. With the growth of contracting models for cloud and maintenance of part of the infrastructure on premise at Elo, there was a need for the company to implement a tool that would help optimize and reduce costs with the hybrid cloud, improve performance and support the construction of a FinOps team.

Walter Rodrigues, director of Operations and Alliances at CXP Brasil, IBM business partner responsible for implementing Turbonomic, commented that, since the beginning of the project, the recommendation for the most appropriate solution for managing Elo's environment already pointed to the IBM Turbonomic platform. “The technology has proven to be highly effective, especially as it presents dashboards integrated systems – among others that can be customized –, allowing a precise vision to optimize the performance of cloud environments and simplify resource planning – which, consequently, facilitates decision making”, he states.

Among the benefits that IBM Turbonomic generated for Elo, in addition to the direct savings in technological and financial resources provided by the effective management and optimization of a hybrid environment, there is also the simplified integration of the processes and tools necessary for the workflow. With this, the gains go far beyond cost savings and operational efficiency, as it is possible to have a complete view of the resources available to complete assertive planning, including in times of peak usage caused by the seasonality inherent to each type of business. In this way, Elo's FinOps project was very focused on cloud consumption, mainly because the company operates in an area traditionally known for the enormous volume of data processed uninterruptedly, 24×7.

According to Marcelo Toledo, superintendent Elo's IT department, the focus on reducing costs in the environment multicloud It already appeared at the beginning of the project, still in the proof of concept phase. “As soon as the proof of concept we were able to see the added value of the tool and the potential we could achieve.” Thus, in just a few months, the company achieved a total return on investment (ROI) with the acquisition of the IBM Turbonomic platform, which ensured efficiency in the information processing and storage stages, eliminated unnecessary cloud provisioning and, therefore, automatically reduced costs. cloud spending at 15%.

For 2024, Elo's expectation is to achieve even greater savings on annual expenses dedicated to the cloud - funds that will be fully used in the cloud itself due to our accelerated growth strategy and partly in other complementary tools, also dedicated to Elo's FinOps environment .

“Visibility and control are fundamental for efficient management in multicloud environments, especially in operations that require high processing demands and run complex applications”, says Helio Manoel Vieira Caetano, Automation manager for Key Accounts at IBM Brazil. “For a payments technology company, like Elo, this scenario becomes even more complex. Therefore, analyzing the investment in a robust and versatile platform like Turbonomic is essential, especially because the ROI is not only guaranteed, but is also very fast”, he adds.

Relevant insights powered by AI

In addition to reducing operational costs, the IBM Turbonomic platform also helps plan the modernization of the environment cloud and with the optimization of data centers, issues that are directly linked to the strategic use of technological resources. And, with the IBM Turbonomic platform, it is possible to speed up and simplify such processes with the use of AI, which allows you to eliminate noise and provide more relevant insights from data that help direct resources dynamically and precisely, to get the most out of them. benefit from applications and, consequently, increase performance.
