Sebrae, SENAI and SESI initiative will benefit small companies in areas such as social welfare, sustainability, efficiency and operational intelligence

Startups, micro and small technology-based companies interested in solving challenges posed by large industries can count on three calls for the Innovation Notice for Industry category C. The total amount of support is R$ 13 million for the development of projects in areas such as sustainability, social well-being, operational intelligence and efficiency. The launch of calls will occur in three states. On January 21 it will be at the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan); on January 23, at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) and on January 25, at the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná (Fiep).

The Innovation Notice for Industry Category C is a partnership of large companies with the National Service for Industrial Learning (SENAI) and the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae). In the analysis of Marcelo Prim, executive manager of Innovation and Technology at SENAI, the new calls stand out for the greater financial contribution that companies are putting into projects. “The increase in the amount invested by companies shows that they are seeing greater added value in innovation notices”, he says. “The public notice not only connects the demand of large companies with startups, but it is an opportunity to share technological and business risks and to have access to the team of researchers that SENAI makes available”, he adds.

Sebrae's Innovation Manager, Célio Cabral, believes that the Public Notice for Innovation for Industry is an excellent opportunity to promote the approximation between small businesses and medium and large companies. SEBRAE bets a lot on this win-win relationship between companies, with the partnership, large companies gain agility by adding small companies capable of developing solutions to their problems. In addition to financial support, small companies gain the opportunity to develop their product in line with the needs of a large customer and rely on the technical and logistical support of large industries. “This relationship goes far beyond technology development, SEBRAE seeks to support small companies in various stages of the process, such as preparing small companies to relate to large companies, actions to improve management, product quality and access to markets.

Partner companies

One of the calls is from Enel Green Power, one of the main energy players in the country. Registration opens on January 23 and ends on March 29, 2019. The company proposes three challenges. One of them calls for solutions to bring clean water to populations without access to treated water and sewage services. The other concerns the reduction of dust in homes near the construction of photovoltaic and wind power plants. The third intends to solve solid waste management and promote the best use of waste in the Brazilian Northeast. “We seek innovative and sustainable ideas to solve challenges encountered in the development of our business, always attentive to the needs of local communities”, says Débora Pinho, Responsible for Sustainability Projects in Generation and Transmission at Enel in Brazil.

The other call is from Engie Energia. In this case, registration starts on the 21st and continues until March 31st, 2019. Up to six startups will be selected that present applicable and functional solutions. Of the three proposed challenges, two are centered on the development of digital platforms (such as cloud format and big data) that allow optimizing energy consumption, through consumption profile analysis, operational intelligence and waste reduction. The third calls for a system for managing occupational health and safety to reduce the incidence of accidents. “We want to promote harmonious progress, and innovation and partnerships with startups are fundamental pillars for transforming the relationship between people and energy, for a sustainable world”, emphasizes Maurício Bähr, CEO of ENGIE Brazil.

The other concerns mobility with safety and asks the startup to create technology for autonomous industrial cars to transport liquid metal in steelmaking processes. And, finally, a solution for online tracking and monitoring of waste and by-products generated in the steelmaking process. “We are always looking for new technologies that improve operational safety, improve the quality of work of our employees and promote innovation.
