86 industries have already signed up for the Program of the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI)

The Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) launched the Startup Industry 4.0 program to strengthen the country's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, with a membership of 86 companies, three of them Portuguese. “One of the solutions for the industry to improve its productivity and efficiency lies in startups. This thought needs to be spread. The success of industries joining the public notice shows the relevance of the program”, highlights Guto Ferreira, President of ABDI. The deadline for interested startups to apply is March 31.

The program budget provides R$ 4.8 million for startups in Brazil and Portugal that connect to industries in both countries with 4.0 technology solutions. This is the second edition of the program and seeks to select 30 large industries, three of which are Portuguese, and 120 startups, of which 10% are from Portugal. In the end, the expectation is to have 60 startups connected to the participating industries.

Each connected startup will receive R$ 80K in prize money. “In addition to being focused on 4.0, the program foresees mixed connections. Portuguese industries and startups will seek the match with Brazilian industries and startups”, highlights ABDI Innovation Coordinator, Rodrigo Rodrigues.

In 2017, ABDI held a first edition of Startup Indústria, with ten pilots between startups and industries based in Brazil, namely: 3M / Trackage; BRF / Birmind; Caterpillar / MZTEC; Dow Brazil / Sunew; Embraco / Virturian; Embraer / Victor Alfa; Ericsson / Nearbee; Libbs / MSc Med; Natura / Regenerate; Votorantim Cimentos / Geoinova.
