The Eldorado Research Institute, in Campinas (SP), hosted the first edition of DIGITAL TALKS ABES this Wednesday (05/15), whose program dealt with emerging topics in the Brazilian conjuncture and that directly impact business. The event had the support of the Softex Campinas Center.

Thomas Corte Real

Thomaz Lopes Côrte Real, lawyer and legal advisor to ABES, addressed the General Data Protection Law - LGPD, enacted in August 2018, which will oblige companies of any size or sector to adapt to it. Due to the regulation, it is essential to adopt new practices in the storage, treatment and use of personal data of employees and consumers.

Although this law will only come into force in 2020, the expert explained that Brazil has legal frameworks, such as the Marco Civil da Internet and the Consumer Protection Code, which bring articles that are already being used by Justice in the processes. “Organizations need to evaluate the personal information of third parties that are in their database, if they are being used or can be discarded, define policies, responsible and security procedures, to avoid leaks. In the event of any intercurrence, it will be necessary to demonstrate that the company followed good practices in data management”, he pointed out.

Carolina Marzano

corporate ethics

compliance with the Anti-Corruption Law was addressed by Carolina Marzano, compliance officer at ABES, highlighting that sanctions in situations of irregularities can even break a company. “In Brazil, we need to change the culture. The integrity program needs to have the commitment and support of senior management. It must be built in order to meet the needs of each company individually, observing the characteristics and risks of the business area in which it operates. Therefore, there is no ready-made formula”, he commented. Carolina spoke about the pioneering spirit of ABES, which is one of the first entities with an integrity program implemented, and about the support offered to members who decide to follow suit.

Jamile Sabatini Marques

In an interview with the ABES Portal, Luciano Assis, deputy director of Núcleo Softex Campinas, supporter of DIGITAL TALKS ABES, emphasized the importance of the event and that it is aligned with the spirit of uniting and strengthening the innovation ecosystem in Campinas, contributing to the dissemination of information and knowledge.
