The fourth edition of the IoT BUSINESS FORUM, an event promoted by the TI Inside portal and focused on the discussion of business models for the adoption of the Internet of Things in the country, took place this Monday (10/06/2019) at the World Trade Center, in São Paulo.
 
ABES was represented at the meeting by Werter Padilha, coordinator of the IoT Committee, who participated in the panel “Challenge in building an ecosystem to foster the IoT”, alongside Tiago Chagas Faierstein, leader of the Smart Cities Project of the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI); Carlos Azen, manager of the Information and Communication Technologies Department at BNDES; Daniel Laper, senior manager of business development at American Tower; and Alexandra Regina Muniz, operations manager at Finep.

The panel was opened by Tiago Chagas Faierstein, who spoke about ABDI's role in this moment of rupture represented by the advent of the 4th Digital Revolution. In this scenario, the agency has promoted the dissemination of advanced manufacturing technologies and processes in the country and subsidized the development of technologies and processes. The executive highlighted the creation of the Living Lab, established in a partnership with the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI), which already has several technologies implemented, such as electric vehicles and smart energy meters, and in which different innovations can be tested. together with the private sector. This lab is hosting mayors' caravans so they can see how the smart cities concept is put into practice.
 
Data on the global ICT market and Brazil's position in the global ranking of investments in hardware, software and services, which are part of the Study on the Brazilian Software Market - Panorama and Trends, produced by IDC and ABES, were presented by Werter Padilha . He highlighted the potential of the Brazilian domestic market and the opportunities for exports, saying that “it is a matter of taking advantage of opportunities. Companies in the sector must open their perspectives, as we are experiencing a paradigm shift, as software and hardware are increasingly integrated. It is no longer worth saying that the company only develops software”.
 
Fostering innovation
 
Carlos Azen, manager of the Information and Communication Technologies Department at the BNDES, spoke about the BNDES' mission in the development of companies and in the modernization of infrastructure, which has given support to advances in creative economy, industry 4.0, smart cities, precision, among other areas. He also spoke about the bank's role in preparing the National IoT Plan, fostering innovation, financing project testbeds and supporting startups through the BNDES Garagem program.

Alexandra Regina Muniz, Operations Manager at Finep, spoke about the different types of support offered by the financier, including Finep IoT to foster innovation, Finep Startup, Inovacred (financing to companies with revenues of up to R$ 90 million), the economic subsidies to Industry 4.0, non-reimbursable funding for universities and research institutes, among other modalities. She highlighted that Finep's vision of innovation is broad, so companies can go to Finep in search of financing for infrastructure modernization projects, new technologies, process and product improvements, equipment acquisition, etc.    
 
Scalability
 
Daniel Laper, senior manager of business development at American Tower, spoke about the company's expertise in sharing antenna infrastructure and using the LoRaWAN network (radio frequency technology that allows communication over long distances with low power consumption) for the internet of things. This technology is present in more than 100 countries and has been used by the main operators in the telecommunications sector as it contributes to increasing the capillarity of connections, to make the business of the IoT ecosystem gain scale.
