Brian Krzanich, CEO of Intel, announced the Intel 'Make It Wearable' Challenge. The goal is to encourage innovation in wearable technology and help create new connected experiences. The challenge will award more than US$ 1.3 million in prizes to the winners and will bring them closer to industry personalities who will help bring their ideas to life.

Inventors are encouraged to consider areas important to the proliferation of wearable devices and ubiquitous computing, such as meaningful usage models, appearance, battery life, security and privacy.

The product must be a sensor or computational device attached, incorporated or wearable on the body. Categories include fashion, wellness, social, education, environment, safety and health. The judges and advisors will be personalities from areas related to wearables, such as technology, entrepreneurship and design.

Winners will be announced in the second half of this year. First place will win US$ 500 thousand. The second and third places will receive US$ 200 thousand and US$ 100 thousand, respectively. The ten finalists will receive US$ 50 thousand. Each will receive more than 70 hours of intensive coaching over two months to help their ideas take off.

More details and official rules will be released in February and will be available on the website www.makeit.intel.com.
