Company contributes to transforming OpenTelemetry into a business project

Dynatrace, a leading software intelligence company, announces a deal with Google and Microsoft on the OpenTelemetry project, an important initiative to shape the future of observability based on open standards. To further improve the industry and expand the reach of its Software Intelligence Platform, Dynatrace is contributing its professionals and transaction tracking knowledge to the project.

OpenTelemetry provides standardized transaction-level observability through the generation, collection, and description of telemetry data for Cloud-native distributed systems. As the adoption of OpenTelemetry advances, it will serve as an additional data source to further extend the observability of the Cloud, including expanding the broad reach of the Dynatrace® software intelligence platform, which already automatically collects and stores information in the Cloud. “The OpenTelemetry project will allow developers of native Cloud applications to have greater observability capabilities. We are excited about the widespread adoption of OpenTelemetry as it will elevate the breadth of data and scope of the Cloud ecosystem that organizations can look to. As a result, our customers will benefit from richer insights and more efficient responses,” says Alois Reitbauer, Head of Technical Strategy and Head of the Innovation Lab at Dynatrace

Dynatrace is working with Microsoft, Google and other companies acting as an essential partner of OpenTelemetry, providing technical expertise, manpower and code to prepare the project with enterprise resources including:

High-Level Instrumentation APIs: offering high-fidelity tracking code to allow developers to quickly and easily structure observability into their native Cloud applications and reduce monitoring blind spots as new programming languages and methodologies emerge.

Universal tracking context integration: Supporting transactional context availability in hybrid Multicloud, ensuring organizations can easily maintain end-to-end observability in their native Cloud ecosystems.

Runtime management: helping organizations ensure that the resources needed for observability of the individual components and software libraries underlying native Cloud applications are dynamically available.

"OpenTelemetry's ultimate goal is to become the standard for developers and operators to capture performance information from their services," says Morgan McLean, Product Manager at Google. “We are excited to have Dynatrace as a key contributor to the OpenTelemetry project. Society at large will benefit from Dynatrace's nearly 15 years of experience in automated tracking systems for businesses.”

For Hong Gao, Microsoft Corp. Group Programming Manager, "We've had a highly productive collaboration with Dynatrace on the W3C Trace Context standard and we hope to advance OpenTelemetry for developers together."
