Dynatrace, a world reference in digital performance management solutions, announces offering code-level monitoring for serverless AWS Lambda functions. The new functionality was released because AWS Lambda's serverless computing service has become increasingly popular for Internet of Things (IoT) devices and for the abilities of Amazon's Alexa virtual assistant. With Dynatrace, companies can monitor performance across all channels (omnichannel), including interactions via the Internet, cell phones and mobile devices, as well as via Amazon Alexa.

"Amazon Alexa is becoming a critical part of omnichannel experiences. Today, people are buying and transacting by voice, not just their PC or mobile device. Monitoring these transactions is essential so we don't have an increasing blind spot." , says Alois Reitbauer, Vice President, Head of Technical Strategy and Head of Innovation at Dynatrace.

"This is similar to Internet of Things (IoT) devices. People now have millions of devices that are driving code that runs on AWS Lambda, so companies need automated, real-time solutions to enable continuous visibility and proactive performance management, preventing failures," he says.

Organizations are using AWS Lambda for event-driven applications like Alexa skills and IoT applications to eliminate server costs, improve availability, and move to a self-managing infrastructure model. With Dynatrace, companies using AWS Lambda can benefit from broad visibility into how code can run for AWS Lambda functions and, as a result, understand its impact on overall application performance and user experience.

“AWS Lambda represents a true innovation in the Cloud and an evolution of the traditional hardware model. performance management in the traditional way is impossible," says Reitbauer. "With our Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven approach to performance monitoring and management, organizations can now answer questions related to AWS Lambda functions to optimize the experience of their digital users," he says.

AWS Lambda makes it easy to run code in response to events such as changes to Amazon S3 buckets, updates to tables in Amazon's DynamoDB, or custom events generated by applications or devices. Dynatrace automatically deploys the execution environment in real-time, with no code-level changes required, enabling continuous, end-to-end full-stack visibility.
