After participating in a selection process disputed with 14 other investment managers, DOMO Invest (www.domoinvest.com.br) was chosen and will become responsible for managing the Angel Co-investment Fund of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development ( BNDES) through its equity arm, BNDESPAR. The equity committed to the Fund, with a duration of 10 years, will correspond to up to R$ 100 million.

The investment focus of this fund will be on nascent businesses (startups with annual revenues below R$ 1 million) in the most diverse sectors, including: Creative Economy (B2C, O2O, B2B, logistics), Agribusiness, Health and Biotech, Information Technologies and Communication (ICT), Fintechs and Smart Cities.

“I have been working with angel investing for almost 20 years and I believe the time has come to contribute to leverage new and better angel investors for the ecosystem”, says Franco Pontillo, one of those responsible for this new fund at DOMO Invest.

Another premise of the fund will be to make co-investments with other investors, these being angel investors or even accelerators and incubators around Brazil. For Felipe Andrade, founding partner of DOMO Invest, “this fund will allow a significant boost in the potential of investments in startups, multiplying knowledge and resources invested by angel investors or accelerators. We will work together with them to allow good entrepreneurs to have access to capital for their businesses. . This is one of the paradigms we want to break at DOMO Invest." In the nascent stage, the fund will initially be able to invest up to R$ 500 thousand per startup.

The selection process for the public notice lasted eight months and took place in two stages. Five other investment managers also participated in the final phase: Cventures / Altivia, Invest Tech, Performa / ACE, SP Ventures / NXTP Labs / Bossa Nova Investimentos and Yaguara Capital / 100 Open Startups.

The Anjo Co-investment Fund is multi-stage, that is, the start-up companies that perform better will be able to count on other rounds of capitalization of the fund, when reaching the level of “small innovative company” (companies with annual revenues between R$ 1 million and R$ 16 million , as determined in the year immediately prior to the approval of the investment). These additional investments, per startup, could reach up to R$ 5 million.

In recent years, DOMO Invest partners have participated in more than 50 investments and M&A transactions in technology businesses. The manager adheres to the codes of Anbima (Brazilian Association of Financial and Capital Markets Entities) and Abvcap (Brazilian Association of Private Equity and Venture Capital), was born with the principles of governance and compliance in line with the best market practices , complying with the precepts determined by the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), without neglecting innovation and the new way of doing business in the Venture Capital market. The challenge now will be to invest in more than 100 new businesses in the coming years with the same quality that has been done.
