New system was implemented in three weeks and is already benefiting 900 users and more than 3,000 client users

Digisystem, a Brazilian company that provides business solutions based on advanced technologies that help companies go through the journey of digital transformation, has just migrated data from most areas of the company to IBM's cloud. The project, carried out in May this year, was completed in three weeks and provided Digisystem with a performance gain, creation of an environment with greater redundancies, greater flexibility in operating system versions and in the size of servers.

In addition, the migration resulted in an annual cost reduction of approximately R$ 600 thousand reais, due to the elimination of the exchange rate variation of the monthly amount, since the payment is now made in Brazil, excluding the need to pay taxes from import of services. The migration impacted approximately 900 Digisystem users and more than three thousand client users.

According to the Director of Infrastructure and Cyber Risk at Digisystem, Wagner Hiendlmayer, issues such as improved security for infrastructure in the cloud environment, high competitor costs and national support were the main motivations for the migration. "In addition to the financial impact, we had critical issues regarding the flexibility of the security solutions that we could make available in the cloud", explains the executive. Another important factor that influenced the decision was the choice of a hybrid environment, with solutions within the cloud platform and other baremetal servers with virtualization, a topology that was not possible in the previous infrastructure.

Autonomy and security

For Hiendlmayer, one of the main benefits of IBM cloud it's the question of flexibility regarding the platforms that are made available to customers. "In addition to the cloud solution, it is possible that computational components are provided in a virtualization infrastructure – such as PowerVM IBM, VMWare or Hyper-V – or even the possibility of using IBM Power Systems with Power9 line processors in AIX, Linux or RedHat OpenShift", he clarifies. The specialist also points out that these benefits influence the business of companies not only in financial matters with cost reduction, but also in terms of support so that the internal team is well served, consequently improving the business focus.

Hiendlmayer explains that the way the environment was built made it possible to create redundancies in all environments, removing single points of failure, and implementing information security solutions in the virtualization environment, which would not be possible to be launched in a cloud environment conventional. "This new hybrid infrastructure provided greater control over the environment for Digisystem. In this way, we gained more autonomy for implementing the environments", he concludes. After the migration, it was possible to create at Digisystem a Disaster Recovery (Disaster Recovery, or System Recovery) and high availability environment.
