The adoption of the new technology can be financed with special credit conditions by development institutions, such as Desenvolvimento SP

The Internet of Things or IoT, from the English 'internet of things', is already a reality for many companies. Devices, increasingly connected to the world wide web, perform functions that make our daily lives easier and bring more efficiency, productivity and new business opportunities. According to recent studies, it is estimated that by 2020 around 50 billion things will be connected through sensors and wireless communication networks, transmitting in real time a multitude of data, which has already revolutionized the way society relates and communicates. .

There are countless examples on the application of IoT to different business models. In agriculture, through sensors, drones and satellites integrated into data platforms (dashboards), it is now possible to obtain accurate information on the level of rainfall, sunlight, planting progress and the presence of pests, optimizing the stages of the production cycle in the field. In the logistics sector, real-time monitoring of deliveries and cargo handling with integration into stock has allowed companies to become more efficient and less wasteful.

The IoT is also a great ally in the construction of so-called Smart Cities. To help mobility, for example, it is possible to create bus stops that monitor the traffic of the lines to better serve users; parking meters with intelligent systems that inform drivers where there are spaces available throughout the city, and traffic lights capable of “talking” to cars and roads, making traffic smarter for everyone.

“There is space for companies of all sizes and segments to explore the benefits of IoT”, says Rafel Bergamaschi Business Manager at Desenvolvimento SP, the development agency of the State of São Paulo. According to him, in the case of small and medium-sized companies, which generally face difficulties in accessing long-term credit to invest in new technologies, seeking resources from an institution such as Desenvolvimento SP can make all the difference. “Unlike commercial banks, we offer exclusive lines of financing for innovation with reduced interest rates, longer terms and a longer grace period”, he says.

Entrepreneurs who have not yet realized the business opportunities generated by the IoT are at risk of being left behind. According to a survey by The Economist magazine, 75% of global business leaders are exploring the economic opportunities of the Internet of Things to create new products or improve existing services. In Brazil, a study carried out by BNDES and the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications indicates that, by 2025, the potential impact of the use of IoT will be from US$ 50 billion to US$ 200 billion per year, a value that should represent about 10% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Credit for innovation

At Desenvolvimento SP, companies from São Paulo in the technology area or in the traditional market have four special lines of credit available for radical or incremental innovation projects. Interest rates start at zero% per month with terms of up to 120 months to pay, with a two-year grace period. Entrepreneurs who find it difficult to present guarantees for taking out the financing can still choose to contract Guarantor Funds.

The entire financing process, from application to approval, is carried out through the website www.developmentesp.com.br. The entrepreneur registers at the “Online Requests” icon, sends his investment project and provides all the necessary documentation for the analysis of the institution in a totally safe and transparent way. Doubts can be clarified by telephone: (11) 3123 0464 or by e-mail at atendimento@developmentesp.com.br.
