CPQD has just joined the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance (OSA), an international consortium whose mission is to provide resources (software and tools) for the development of research and products for 5G networks. The association, which brings together companies, universities and other institutions under the coordination of Eurecom, France, aims to create an open source framework (open source) for the access network (RAN) and the core of 5G networks - and also 4G – virtualized.

“Global open innovation communities, such as OSA, have the role of facilitating and stimulating the development of infrastructure for next generation networks”, explains Gustavo Correa Lima, leader of CPQD's Wireless Communications Platform. “By joining this consortium, CPQD reinforces its participation in relevant international initiatives in the telecommunications area, and also contributes to the creation of national technology for 5G”, he adds.

Among the international initiatives in which CPQD participates, Lima highlights the Telecom Infra Project (TIP), a global collaborative community focused on innovation in the telecommunications sector, through the development of new technologies and business models aimed at building the networks of the future. He recalls that the TIP partnered with the OSA consortium, within the Open Core Network project – in which he participates. “This TIP project also aims to develop an open, converged and cloud-native network core, running on an automated infrastructure, based on off-the-shelf hardware and software, to support 4G, 5G and Wi-Fi access technologies, in licensed and unlicensed spectrum bands”, concludes Lima.
