The agreement provides for the implementation of a pilot with a group of users registered on the GOV.BR portal, for which this Federal Government Secretariat is responsible
To assess the possibilities of using decentralized digital identity technology in digital government services available in the country. This is the objective of the technical cooperation agreement recently signed between CPQD and the Digital Government Secretariat of the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (SGD/MGI).
The agreement, which will be valid for two years, provides for a pilot project with users from a specific unit of the federal government – which is yet to be defined. “The intention is to use decentralized digital identity to provide greater security and, at the same time, facilitate access to the GOV.BR portal by users, who will no longer need to enter their login and password. In addition, the technology enables the issuance and verification of authenticated data securely, in the form of a verifiable credential,” explains Fernando Marino, CPQD’s Blockchain Solutions Manager.
GOV.BR – for which SGD/MGI is responsible – is the main portal for accessing digital government services in Brazil. It currently has 160 million registered users and more than 4,400 digital services available – among them, the new National Identity Card.
Marino says that CPQD has already carried out proof of concept, in partnership with SGD/MGI, aiming to evaluate the use of verifiable credentials to access the GOV.BR portal. “The goal now is to evolve to a pilot with users from a specific area, who will be able to access the portal with their verifiable credentials, in an easier and safer way. Another advantage is that these credentials can be reused to access other government services, or even in the private sector”, he adds.
