From the 18th to the 20th of August, the 23rd International Intellectual Property Congress of the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property (ABPI) will take place at the Hotel Windsor Barra, in Rio de Janeiro. 
 
With the main theme Intellectual Property and the Knowledge Society in the New Economy, the event is one of the largest in the area in the country and one of the most important in Latin America, and will bring together – in a program spread over five plenary sessions and 16 panels – judges, businessmen, government officials, lawyers, academics and other specialists to discuss topics such as:
 
  • International Intellectual Property Law;
  • World Cup and Olympics: Ownership Issues and Ambush Marketing;
  • Copyright on Journalistic Material: Extension of Protection in Online Publications;
  • “Boundaries between Telecom Activities: Limits on IP and Competition Law;
  • Unified Patent Court Global Intellectual Property Market Trends;
  • The Improvement of the Trademark System: Highly Renowned Trademarks, Mediation of Oppositions.
An event that has taken place since 1981, the Congress celebrates in 2013 the 50th anniversary of the ABPI, which will be celebrated with a gala dinner on the 18th at the Copacabana Palace with a lecture by Minister Luiz Fux, of the Federal Supreme Court.
