The cloud is emerging as a transformative technology by enabling small businesses to access technologies that were previously only available to large organizations. According to the 2018 Global Software Survey: Software Management: Security Imperative, Business Opportunity, by BSA | The Software Alliance, the cloud is optimizing the use of software by making it available and marketing it online. Also according to the study, IDC estimates that the technology is the basis for 22% of software worldwide.

“The cloud offers companies unparalleled potential to drive new digital opportunities across the enterprise,” explains country manager at BSA| The Software Alliance, the main global advocate of the software sector before governments and in the international market, Antonio Eduardo Mendes da Silva, known in the market as Pitanga.

The BSA study points out the three factors that contributed to this expansion:

THE CLOUD IS ECONOMIC
IT companies that have successfully transitioned to the cloud average 21% less IT costs than companies in the industry that continue to operate large data centers and host the majority of their applications on-premises. The cloud avoids costly investments required to upgrade and maintain hardware infrastructures. Organizations are also reducing their costs because the cloud gives them the ability to pay only for the resources they need, while gaining access to its near-infinite computing and storage capacity.

THE CLOUD IS FLEXIBLE
The cloud architecture offers unprecedented flexibility, not only changing the way computing resources are bought, sold and delivered, but also allowing applications to be accessed anytime, from any device and from anywhere around the world.

THE CLOUD IS SAFE
Cloud providers identify a broader threat landscape to identify risks earlier and deploy more sophisticated security technologies than individual customers could afford on their own.

For Pitanga, the transition to the cloud can be accelerated and facilitated by software asset management (SAM). “SAM helps organizations optimize their software licensing strategy, gaining insights into migration cost-cutting opportunities and information for developing the strategy needed to adopt the new technology,” he explains.
