50 companies will be selected to participate in the Program that aims to support startups at an early stage

Result of a joint action between the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC), the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI), Softex and the executing partner, the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the Conecta Program Startup Brasil announces the launch of the call for companies interested in co-developing innovative solutions with the support of early stage startups.

The complete public notice for companies is available for consultation at the address https://conectastartupbrasil.org.br/. The program starts with applications for companies, whose application period runs until June 07, 2019. The launch of calls for startups will take place on August 27, 2019, as indicated in the document.

“We want to select 50 companies interested in postulating problems to be solved by startups that will be invited to participate in the Program in a second public notice”, highlights the secretary of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at MCTIC, Paulo Alvim, remembering that Conecta Startup Brasil is a project of national coverage with regionalized activities that seek to increase the density of the innovation ecosystem in the country.

The Conecta Startup Brasil Program stands out from other initiatives for focusing on early stage startups connected to solve real market demands. Its actions range from ideation, through connection, training, mentoring and also access to both the market and investments. Approved projects may receive up to R$ 200 thousand in investments.
Incentive to startups

A survey by Fundação Dom Cabral identified that at least 75% of startups die within a period of up to one year, that is, one in four. In four years, that number reaches 50%. The objective of Conecta Startup Brasil is to change this scenario by reducing this high mortality rate. The call for startups will be launched in the second half of this year.

According to the president of ABDI, Guto Ferreira, this program will encourage the Brazilian innovation ecosystem. “The objective of the program is to increase the density of industries and companies that are more prepared to deal with new types of innovation, whether startups or open innovation in general. Also, increase the density of startups prepared to deal with the market”. Ferreira also points out that Conecta Startup Brasil is based on real demands from the productive sector. “We start from technological requests made explicit by companies in the most diverse fields”. Registered companies will be able to list deficiencies that they need to solve.

For companies, Conecta Startup Brasil is an opportunity to strengthen the open innovation culture, participate in the innovation ecosystem, access new technologies and develop innovative solutions that meet their needs. Universities and Research and Development Centers benefit from interaction with the market and the ecosystem itself.

“With the support of these companies, startups will have the opportunity to develop market solutions. We jointly identified in two programs – StartUp Brasil and Startup Indústria – that there is a great demand for innovative solutions, but that it is necessary to stimulate the qualification of these startups”, explains Diônes Lima, vice president of Softex.

The initiative also helps investing entities by delivering more robust startups with solutions that adhere to market needs. The same is true for industry and other sectors, which now have innovative solutions thanks to a greater density of startups with an industrial profile.
