Entries for Siemens Mobility IDEA Contest open until November 16

Entries are open for the Siemens Mobility IDEA Contest (Improving Design and Engineering for All), a global competition created by Siemens focused on innovative solutions to face challenges in the area of traffic in large urban centers. Registration can be done until November 16 on the website www.mobilityidecontest.spigit.com🇧🇷 Winners will be invited to participate in a product prototype workshop with technology experts from the company. The three universities that submit the most ideas will receive part of an in-kind donation of US$ 150,000 for traffic control software to help train the next generation of engineers.

Interested parties should submit suggestions through Mindjet's Spigit Engage interactive platform for one of five situations faced in large cities related to traffic:

1. Everything Connected: How to take advantage of the growth of “connected” technologies to improve the transportation experience?

2. Disaster Resilience and Response: How can advanced traffic management help lessen the impact of a catastrophe or extreme weather event?

3. Green Mobility: Which traffic technologies can generate the greatest reduction in your city's CO2 emissions?

4. Downtown Growth: How can smart traffic technologies manage population growth in city centers?

5. Parking Nightmare: Given that, on average, 30% of traffic in central regions is attributed to people looking for a place to park, what technologies can increase the availability of spaces to get users off the road quickly?

“According to recent statistics compiled by Nationwide Insurance, people commuting to and from work in major cities are stuck in traffic an average of 34 hours a year, and we waste 7.2 billion liters of fuel. The only way to achieve a significant reduction in congestion and fuel consumption is by developing technologies that increase the efficiency of our traffic systems,” says Ben Collar, Director of Research and Development at Siemens Road and City Mobility in the United States.

In the online portal, users can contribute with new ideas, improve the suggestions presented through real-time opinions and comment and vote, in addition to using social networks to publicize the suggestions. Once the contest is closed, the ideas will be evaluated by a jury made up of specialists in the transport sector, and the winners will be notified directly. Finalists will be announced on December 12th.
