INOVApps will select 50 apps and games of public interest

The Ministry of Communications launches the regulations for the InovApps Applications and Electronic Games Contest, which will select 50 unpublished and original projects of applications and games of public interest, with prizes totaling investments of R$ 4.5 million. Individuals and companies established in Brazil can apply. The deadline for entries ends on September 19 and the award ceremony is scheduled for November 14.

INOVApps is a partnership with the Center for Scientific and Technological Development (CDT) of the University of Brasília. The contest is part of the National Creative Digital Content Policy, which MiniCom has been developing alongside various municipal, state and federal agencies to expand and strengthen the segments that produce this content in the country. The objective is to encourage the creation of small, medium and large companies in the sector, promoting the integration of the audiovisual sector with sectors related to technologies and the dissemination of virtual distribution platforms.

"Currently, Brazil has a minimal representation in the international market for creative digital content. The development of games and apps has not kept up with the demand of the Brazilian market – which is the fourth consumer in this segment, moving R$ 850 million per year. So, the main objective of the ministry is to place the country on the world map of production in this sector", says the Minister of Communications, Paulo Bernardo.

For two years, the first version of the selected games and apps will be owned by MiniCom, which will distribute them free of charge. During this period, developers will have the obligation to deliver updates to the free version to the Ministry, but, at the same time, they will be able to launch their commercial versions of the applications.

Apps and serious game projects for mobile devices and connected digital TVs submitted to INOVApps selection must be compatible with at least one of the following platforms: Android, Blackberry, iOS, HTML5, Ginga Middleware and Windows Phone.

Proposals must fit into one of the nine themes listed in the announcement: consumer rights and protection, education/teaching, urban mobility, public safety, tourism and major events, collaborative management of public utility, treatment of public policy indicators (open data ), dissemination of public utility campaigns.

The selected projects will have to be completed within a maximum period of 120 days, counting from the deposit date of the first installment of the award. For the registration of projects, the proponent must download the proposal submission form on the MiniCom page (http://www.comunicacoes.gov.br/concurso-inovapps).
