As technology and application performance become necessary for business success, companies need to look for ways to circumvent the barriers imposed by IT complexity. Although still little adopted, Cognitive Computing is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system capable of understanding and interpreting a large volume of data from natural language, images, texts and other data, both structured and unstructured. In other words, it reduces efforts, reacts quickly to problems, prevents failures and provides business impact.

A survey carried out by the consultancy Deloitte on the benefits of cognitive computing in the corporate environment indicates that 28% of the 2,300 professionals interviewed consider that technology helps in the innovation of products and services, and 23% state that programs are essential to analyze information, improve operation and optimize the design strategy. With the support of technologies to monitor applications full time and in a complete way, Cognitive Computing is an effective novelty that can be applied in several areas, including medicine, finance, engineering, customer service, among others.

According to Forrester Research, the technology has four main objectives: reducing the effort of performance-based applications; react quickly to solve problems; anticipate failures before impacting users; and to analyze the real impact that the problems that may arise can have on the business and on the image or revenue of the company.

As a technology capable of learning, reasoning and interacting in a natural and personalized way, Cognitive Computing is a trend in all markets and has a high potential to change the way people live, work and interact. A market study on this technology, produced by IDC, predicts a growth in world revenues from US$ 8 billion in 2016 to US$ 47 billion in 2020, a growth rate of 55.1%.

Given this scenario, it can be said that the digital experience will gain more and more weight in all industries, motivating companies to establish new performance evaluation criteria suitable for Cognitive Computing and also including other technologies related to digital services, such as Computing in Cloud and mobile apps.

Technologies derived from Artificial Intelligence will be the most innovative in the next ten years. And we can consider this because of the immense computational power and the high availability of data, seen as almost infinite. Companies looking for growth and market maturation need to invest in these technologies as an assertive bet for the future, since, soon, everything will be based on AI and derived technologies, such as deep learning, deep reinforcement learning, machine learning, drones, intelligent robots and smart work environments.

The most visionary companies are already realizing the great advantage of inserting business in the digital age to generate extremely positive results in the present and the future. In the case of Cognitive Computing, companies that know how to make the most of their benefits will have immeasurable gains and will outperform their competitors. In a few years, IT executives will be able to dedicate themselves to business entirely in a strategic way, as routine and operational activities will be under the responsibility of robots. Anyone who thinks there will be a shortage of jobs is wrong, Artificial Intelligence will be responsible for creating more than two million jobs by 2025, according to Gartner. It remains to be seen which companies will be more agile in this new digital race.
