The Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC) launches the 13th edition of the Mercosur Prize for Science and Technology. With the theme “Technologies for the Knowledge Economy”, the award receives entries from October 10, 2017 to March 2, 2018 on the website.
 
Research will be accepted in five areas: new information and communication technologies and their transformative potential; new business models in the digital age – transformation without borders; training of the professional of the future – construction of new skills and abilities; new technologies to awaken young people's interest in learning and developing new technologies; and science, innovation and creativity for human development: the creative industries in digital convergence.
 
Students and researchers from the bloc's member and associated countries – Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela – can participate in five categories: scientific initiation; University student; young researcher; senior researcher; and integration, which necessarily involves groups with researchers from more than one country.
 
Prizes range from US$ 2,000 to US$ 10,000 for the winners of each category, who also receive a trophy. All awarded works are published in book form.
 
The prize
 
Established in 1998 by the Specialized Meeting on Science and Technology of Mercosur (RECyT), the purpose of the award is to recognize the best work by students, young researchers and research teams that represent a potential contribution to scientific and technological development and encourage the realization of scientific and technological research and innovation in Mercosur. In addition, it contributes to the regional integration process by encouraging the dissemination of achievements and scientific and technological advances.
