Throughout our lives, we receive many “educations”: from our parents; of our bosses; schools and life. Based on everything we learn, we form our values. By definition from Wikipedia, “human values are the ethical and spiritual foundations that make up human consciousness. These are the values that make life worth living: they define valuable principles and purposes and aim at grand ends ”. In my view, in simplified words, value is what guides our actions, our conduct. And then the question begins: what values really guide your life? Analyze the situations below with me and reflect:

When a mother teaches a child that he cannot take his friend's toy home, because it is not his, but when he finds himself face to face with a beautiful ring forgotten on a table in a public place, he picks it up for himself. the value that guides this mother's act?

When a person complains about the situation in which the country is due to the robbery of politicians, but fails to give R$ 0.10 in change or raises the price of their product, only to say that they are giving a benefit to consumers on Black Friday when giving a discount (which, in fact, was the original price), how much honesty does this person have?

When a family seeks a paradise beach to spend the summer and leaves their beer cans, empty packets of snacks, cigarette butts, what is the value of collective conscience that these people have?

When an elderly caregiver leaves a lady angry for not changing her diapers, as this elderly woman is in a bad mood, what is the value of care that she has?

When a restaurant serves expired food, changing the date on the packaging so as not to have to throw this food away, as it would be prejudiced by the fact that it was not consumed in time, what values of respect, sincerity and care are those who manage this establishment?

When a man boasts that he has a team of women who are efficient in their work but do not allow his wife to work, what value does this man really believe in?

When, in that year-end traffic, a driver complains about a lock he took from the car that overtaken him on the left, but, just ahead, he himself cuts the line by the shoulder, what is his real civic value?

When a person goes to visit another person who is ill and, when leaving, asks the family how their financial life is, what is the sincere concern of this visitor with the patient?
When you ask for help from someone who claims to be your friend about something they don't know how to do and they, even if they do, don't teach, what is the real meaning of the word friend for them?

Perhaps the questions were endless on this topic, because, I learned that what matters is not so much the answers we give, but the reflections that cause us the good questions.

But I believe that these few questions are enough to make an analysis of what our real values are.

I say this, because the analysis has to start from us to ourselves. It is very easy to judge, to throw the first stone on the neighbor's glass roof, after all, it doesn't hurt. However, to assume that, often, the values we preach are not exactly the ones we practice, it can hurt, because it causes us to reflect.

And once we are clear about certain things, we can only decide what to do with it: change or pretend that it is not true.

As I believe that we are beings in constant stoning, I propose that we reflect on what our real values are; what are the ones that guide our lives, under any circumstances, no matter if there is someone looking or not. Only in this way will we be able to know and improve ourselves as human beings so that our stay on this Earth is not in vain.
