The National Transport Confederation (CNT) launched the public notice for the Conecta program, which will select innovative national and international companies that develop projects capable of supporting and promoting the overcoming of challenges in the transport and logistics sector in Brazil.

Conceived by the entity's president, Clésio Andrade, the initiative is a partnership with BMG UpTech, an arm of the BMG Group focused on innovation. The objective is to select startups that have innovative projects for the air, waterway, rail and road sectors.

Interested parties have until April 30 to apply. Proposals must relate to the core activity or internal processes of the transport companies (eg HR and legal).

The Conecta program should impact the entire Brazilian transport sector, which today comprises a universe of more than 200,000 companies, 2 million self-employed truck drivers and taxi drivers, in addition to more than 3 million employees.

The solutions may include activities that are ancillary to these markets, such as management, sustainability, dentistry, nutrition, psychology, physiotherapy and education - areas linked to SEST SENAT, which provides professional training and social assistance for transport workers and also linked to the ITL – Institute of Transport and Logistics, an entity that works in education, research and intelligence for the transport sector.

Expected results

According to CNT's Director for International Affairs, Harley Andrade, Conecta is yet another CNT action to promote innovation in Brazilian transport, taking advantage of opportunities arising from technological changes. Therefore, it has the approval of three of the biggest players in this ecosystem in Brazil and Latin America: in addition to BMG UpTech, Bossa Nova Investimentos and the accelerator Nxtp.Labs. “What we are looking for are smart alternatives for the sector. We have to provoke creativity and find, abroad, who is producing possible solutions to problems that we have mapped out in all modes”, explains Andrade.

Among the expected results, the CEO of BMG UpTech, Rodolfo Santos, explains that there are cost reductions, efficiency gains and stimulation of innovation. “Startup is a company that works in very specific solutions focused on solving real problems, in a practical, simple and very effective way. The idea, therefore, is to go to the market to find entrepreneurs who can present assertive answers to the challenges of Brazilian transport”, he says.

Santos emphasizes that Conecta is not a startup acceleration program, but a traction program. This means that participating companies must already be mature and operational, with products and services available.
understand the program

The Conecta program will be developed in four stages over approximately seven months. In the first stage, which starts right after the registration period, up to 100 startups will be selected, who will undergo online interviews, of an eliminatory nature. Then, the period of traction and investments effectively begins, gradually raised, with a valuation of up to R$ 5.7 million:

• Phase 1: up to 50 startups at R$ 20,000 per startup and valuation of R$ 1 million. Duration: 1 month (only one face-to-face meeting) *

• Phase 2: up to 25 startups at R$ 210,000 per startup and valuation of R$ 3.5 million. Duration: 4 months (there will be eight face-to-face meetings of 2 to 3 days each)

• Phase 3: up to 5 startups at R$ 230,000 per startup and valuation of R$ 5.7 million. Duration: 1 month in acceleration in the United States

* In the 1st phase, the startup that proves the receipt of investment in the valuation greater than R$ 3 million will be exempted from assigning equity of 2% and will still receive the resource.
