The healthcare area is often resistant when it comes to adopting cutting-edge technologies. In the case of Cloud Computing it could not be different. Institutions in the sector are often slow to fully understand the benefits of the cloud for business, but it is possible to say that there is already a maturity in this sense, even if relative. According to a study by the research institute Marketsandmarkets, the forecast is that, by 2017, Cloud Computing in healthcare will generate US$ 5.4 billion in the world.

Some segments are already using this resource to the full, especially in recent years, in which there has been an improvement in the telecommunications structure in Brazil. The authorization of medical insurance exams, for example, is already done many times via the internet, in addition, the completion of forms that standardize the electronic exchange of information in supplementary health, the TISS guides, also already works widely in the Cloud. Healthcare operators were one of the first areas to include the cloud in their routine and in their communication with clinics, including for the distribution of test results.According to data from Transparency Market Research, until 2018, 80% of data from institutions focused on will pass through these technologies, which could transform some aspects of the sector, making processes more dynamic and functional.

The advantages of adopting these systems, both from a business point of view and in terms of process optimization, are many. Reducing infrastructure costs is just one of them. As a large amount of equipment is not required to store or update data, the systems are highly scalable, therefore, those responsible for the adoption of Cloud Computing in a company will not need to make calculations for the next five or more years, foreseeing the institution's growth, after all, with the cloud, you can increase or decrease capacity at any time. There is also the ease of data storage and remote access. And, because of the ease of updating the system in the cloud, security and data preservation always remain high, as there is replication of information on servers all over the world. Furthermore, any security breach can be quickly detected and corrected and the system updated for all users instantly.

At the moment, we still have some barriers to the full adoption of Cloud Computing, such as broadband coverage, which needs improvement throughout the national territory, so that areas such as radiology, for example, which have a volume of data transfer very large, can work in the cloud fully. But the scenario ahead is favorable. According to Portal Brasil, by 2016, R$ 17.7 billion should be invested in infrastructure to expand broadband throughout the country. As networks improve, migration to these systems will be inevitable. Cloud Computing is the future and the market can look forward to enjoying all the benefits!
