Mauro Dourado will direct new area

CLM Software, a distributor of value-added technologies focused on information security, infrastructure and cloud, has just created the CLM Data Protection Unit to meet the demands of channels and customers regarding data protection under the GDPR – General Data Protection. Regulation. Mauro Dourado takes over as director of the new division, which unifies all data protection and privacy solutions from the providers that make up the CLM portfolio: Bitglass, Hillstone, Radware, Micro Focus, Mobotix, Allot, Picus Security, Proofpoint, Barracuda, Securonix , A10 Networks and SentinelOne. The unit led by Dourado is also responsible for all the corporation's subsidiaries in Brazil, Peru, Colombia and the United States.

CLM structured the new unit with multidisciplinary specialists so that, based on analyses, a collection of functionalities of the various security solutions it distributes is formatted, to identify which specific demands, both from Brazilian regulations and from GDPR, can be met by they. CLM CEO Francisco Camargo explains that European legislation, the GDPR, with its 99 articles, is very comprehensive and has many nuances that need to be studied so that companies that work with European partners or serve European customers are in compliance with your rules.

“Initially, we brought together lawyers and compliance officers to understand the legislation. Then we train the product and pre-sales team, so that the projects presented by the channels are formatted to meet the specific needs of each client,” he says.

The new unit, which centralizes the various solutions dedicated to the protection and security of data and privacy, significantly increased CLM's qualifications and will enable it to serve more channels as its customers face the challenges of European and Brazilian legislation.

Also according to Camargo, data protection and user privacy have always been very important. “GDPR has regulated this concern, and user data leaks can now cost companies dearly.” The executive recalls that in times of digital transformation, vulnerabilities increase the greater the exposure surface, which has grown a lot with the use of private devices connected to the company's network (BYOD) and with telework (Home Office).

The GDPR

For those who have not been following, GDPR is the new and restrictive European regulation, which deals with the collection, processing and storage of data from any citizen of the European Community. In force since May 25, the regulation will impact companies around the world that do business with European customers or even deal with a European citizen.

With 99 articles, the new legislation sets heavy fines for companies that break the rules: up to 20 million euros or 4% of annual worldwide turnover. Camargo mentions article 27, which says that even foreign companies that process some data from European citizens, even outside Europe, have to fit in.

It's good to keep an eye out. Among many other provisions, the regulation limits the storage of information by companies, according to the purpose for which they are intended and includes the principle of proactive responsibility, which explains the duty of companies to answer for the data they store. In the same vein comes the creation of the role of DPO – Data Protection Officer or EPD – Data Protection Officer. European estimates predict the opening of 78 thousand vacancies in data protection and compliance, in Europe alone. “Nobody is ready for GDPR yet,” says Camargo.

Here, the Chamber of Deputies recently (May 29) approved Bill 4060/12, by deputy Milton Monti (PR-SP), which regulates the use of personal data, both by public authorities and the private sector. The matter had been debated for two years and had its vote accelerated after European legislation came into force. The law will now be reviewed in the Senate.
