Citrix Systems announced the acquisition of Sanbolic, a company focused on storage virtualization, a deal that strengthens the company's presence in the cloud computing market. With Sanbolic's technology, the customer can manage storage via software, optimizing the distribution of workloads for specific applications from any type of media - SSD, Flash and hard drives on NAS, SAN, servers and clouds - improving the load balancing during storage, application availability and providing the best user experience.
 
For Citrix, the acquisition of this robust set of technologies that allows it to manage the infrastructure for workloads and its application alongside products from the XenDesktop, XenApp and XenMobile families – which lead the market – and allows it to develop a line of differentiated solutions. These solutions should greatly reduce the cost and complexity of deploying Windows applications and implementing virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
 
Sanbolic offers geo-distributed deployments across multiple locations and clouds; linear and predictable scaling; simplified provisioning and management; and efficiency gains. The acquired company's team will be integrated with Citrix. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
