With a new type of malware being created every eight seconds, digital threats are a big problem for companies, which can take up to 243 days to identify an attack and another 50 to resolve it. The data are from the Global Software Survey, recently released by the BSA| The Software Alliance, the leading global advocate for the software industry before governments and in the international marketplace.

These attacks cost the company an average of $2.4 million, which translates to a 0.8% drop in global GDP. “The chances of a malware infection being directly linked to the use of unlicensed software are high,” explains BSA country manager Antonio Eduardo Mendes da Silva, known in the market as Pitanga. “That's why it's so important for CIOs to establish software asset management programs, known by the acronym SAM, as they help organizations know exactly what's installed on their machines, reducing the risk of cyber attacks and reducing expenses with redundant licenses”, he adds.
