With the beginning of social isolation, a tool was made available for victims of domestic violence to register online reports. New functionality is available on the Santa Catarina Civil Police website and was developed in 15 days with low-code technology

The Santa Catarina Civil Police website now has a space called the Women's Virtual Police Station, which allows victims of violence against women to register on-line reports. The option is part of a set of actions by the public authorities to tackle domestic violence, which has increased during the pandemic period, in addition to facilitating registration without having to move, which is one of the guidelines for social isolation. For crimes that resulted in death, it is necessary to go to a physical police station.

According to data from the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights (MMDH), in April, when the social isolation imposed by the pandemic had lasted more than a month, the number of complaints of violence against women received on channel 180 grew almost 40% compared to the same month of 2019.

Denunciations of domestic violence include not only cases of aggression and threats between couples, but also situations in which the victim and the aggressor have another form of family bond. This includes, for example, cases of violence between parents and children or other family members, such as in-laws and in-laws.

All police reports registered with the Virtual Police Station are analyzed and forwarded to the responsible police station. After validating the registration, the user receives, by e-mail, a protocol number, through which he can access the information on that bulletin. The record made is automatically integrated into the Integrated Public Security System, developed and maintained by the Public Security Solutions Coordination, another sector of the CIASC.

The functionality was created by the Center for Informatics and Automation of the State of Santa Catarina (CIASC) using low-code GeneXus technology, a tool based on Artificial Intelligence that automates traditional programming languages, making the development process agile, and aims to ensure more visibility for channels of assistance and reception for victims of this type of violence, in addition to avoiding underreporting when facilitating complaints.

According to the team leader of the CIASC government solutions coordinator, Sandro Magrinelli Vianna, GeneXus has been a technology widely used in CIASC for over 30 years, and it facilitates the creation of applications. “The tool allows us to put more effort into defining the business rules, and less in the programming language, or even in the technology itself. This results in a faster response and greater efficiency in delivering the demands of our customers ”, he sums up, adding that the new functionality was created in 15 days, from prioritization to final delivery.

For GeneXus Brasil's country manager, Ricardo Recchi, CIASC's role in developing online tools is an important achievement for Santa Catarina's citizens, especially when it is part of a broader effort. “Both the Police and other institutions in the areas of security and justice have devised several actions to address the problem of domestic violence and having GeneXus as a foundation of this initiative demonstrates how important it is to follow a path based on processes, people and technology” , concludes Recchi.
