Event creates opportunities for developers of innovative solutions
Febraban and ITS (Institute of Software and Services Technology) promote, during Ciab Febraban 2014, which will be held between June 4th and 6th at the Transamerica Expo Center, the tenth edition of Espaço Inovação. This year there will be 20 small and medium-sized developer companies from seven Brazilian states, which will present innovative solutions in the areas of information security, credit risk analysis, digital signature and certification and other high demand areas.
Espaço Inovação is a collective stand of companies entering the market, which present their solutions for the financial segment. The solutions presented are chosen by a committee of specialists, based on their market potential. As a way of encouraging the contact of these companies with customers (banks and financial institutions), the amounts that companies pay for this participation are much lower than those charged at the fair.
Thirteen companies from São Paulo, two from Rio Grande do Sul and one from each of the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Paraná and the Federal District were selected. “Over these 10 years, Espaço Inovação has followed the break of a market paradigm, in which banks only worked with large multinational suppliers”, comments Descartes Teixeira, president of ITS and curator of Espaço Inovação. “We carried out a survey with customers who closed deals from Espaço Inovação, and we found this new market scenario. In the current scenario, banks and financial institutions in Brazil have started to consider small local companies as their suppliers”, he adds.
The survey carried out by ITS found more positive results: all 157 small and medium-sized companies that passed through Espaço Inovação in these 10 years reported growth in business, in revenue and in the number of customers after the event; seven companies received international awards; twelve are internationalized and another nine will have their own stand at the next Ciab Febraban. “We were pleased to observe that Espaço Inovação encouraged this break with the old scenario, helping to accommodate small and medium-sized companies that, otherwise, would not have visibility for the big banks. Today, the decision maker of a bank has no doubts when working with these companies”.
Highlights of the 2014 Edition
The tenth edition of Espaço Inovação highlights solutions that encourage social inclusion in vulnerable communities or outside large urban centers. An example of this is the microinsurance solution of the company Vayon, from São Paulo, which includes software, hardware, storage, processing and administration on a single platform, lowering business costs and, consequently, the cost of the product for the end user. The company is currently working with its solution in communities undergoing economic expansion in Rio de Janeiro, facilitating access for residents of the region to credit at inclusive prices.
Another company that stands out with this proposal is Cartão Um, which is taking private label cards to low-income workers in small towns in the interior of Bahia. Through microcredit, these communities gain purchasing power for basic expenses with food, hygiene and other consumer goods. The company's objective now is to take its solutions to states in the Southeast regions, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.
Book will tell the history of Espaço Inovação
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Espaço Inovação, ITS will launch in the second half of this year a book telling the history of the initiative and portraying, in the form of successful cases, the trajectory of some companies that have passed through the space. “The purpose of the launch is to celebrate these 10 years of project success and publicize the good work carried out by these companies, which have fewer resources than the market leaders, but are victorious based on their innovative solutions”, comments Descartes Teixeira.
Ciab Febraban is the biggest and best event in Latin America for both the financial sector and the technology area. Since its first edition in 1991, it has encouraged the development of banking technology and innovation. Annually, the congress brings together around 1,900 representatives of banks in Brazil and other countries and features around 120 personalities, including lecturers and debaters in more than 30 panels. The exhibition area gathers around 200 companies that supply technology and corporate innovation, in a total space of more than four thousand square meters, attracting an annual visitation of more than 18 thousand executives and directors of financial institutions and other areas of technology and innovation.
