Initiative aims to identify new technologies and innovative solutions to fight pandemic

The Technological Innovation Center – InovaHC of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (HCFMUSP) and the Government of the State of São Paulo announced this week the IdeiaGov, an innovation program that aims to identify technologies and proposals to combat and reduce the impacts of the new coronavirus on the population's health.

Aimed at entrepreneurs, companies, researchers and entities from all over Brazil, the program opened applications for proposals in the “Government Challenges” and “Technological Market Offers” modalities. The winning projects will receive lines of financing and contracting of products created by public agencies.

The president of InovaHC, prof. Dr Giovanni Guido Cerri, states that “the partnership with the State Government is in our spirit of encouraging open innovation and seeks to develop the healthcare ecosystem in order to improve its economic and operational efficiency and, at the same time, integrate the sectors public and private in favor of technological innovation”.

He explains that today there are more than 30 startups working within InovaHC in different areas, developing and applying technologies that can be useful in serving Covid-19 patients and patients in general. “This will be the great legacy that will be transmitted in the post-covid”, says Cerri, stressing the benefit of transferring the technologies developed to other hospitals in the public and private networks. “Here we are developing projects using artificial intelligence, telehealth, remote monitoring technology and the use of robotics”.

The IdeiaGov program is led by the São Paulo State Departments of Economic Development and Government, with the realization of InovaHC and operation of the Impact Hub. Also part of the initiative are the São Paulo State Health Secretariat, the São Paulo Technological Research Institute (IPT), the São Paulo State Attorney General (PGE) and the São Paulo Data Processing Company (PRODESP ), in addition to organizations operating in the areas of business generation, based on science and technology, government innovation and social technologies, such as Wylinka and the Tellus Institute.

The adoption of technology and innovation as strategic paths for solving major public challenges such as Covid-19 aims to “boost economic development through public procurement of innovation, mainly providing opportunities for innovative small and medium-sized startups in general ”, highlights the Secretary of Economic Development of the State, Patrícia Ellen.

Enrollments for IdeiaGov are free and can be made until August 10th through the website www.ideiagov.sp.gov.br.
