According to Villela, Intel Capital invests in several companies that offer hardware, software and services for the business, home, mobility, healthcare, Internet, digital media and semiconductor manufacturing segments. “Since 1991, Intel Capital has invested more than US$ 10.8 billion in more than 1,276 companies in 54 countries. During this period, 201 portfolio companies went public on various stock exchanges around the world and 317 were acquired or participated in mergers. In 2012, Intel Capital invested US$ 352 million in 150 companies, with approximately 57% of the amount invested outside North America,” said the executive.

For a company to be selected by Intel Capital, Villela explained that several factors are considered, among them, strategic fit with Intel's business, growth profile, segment in which it operates - it must have synergy with areas in which we are actively seeking opportunities - it must be relatively large and have good prospects for growth, management and business model scalability.

Vilella highlighted the importance of the entity's initiative to hold the ABES Software Conference: “For us, it is a great pleasure to meet companies that may fit into possible investment targets. In addition, it is important to spread the culture of Venture Capital/Private Equity among entrepreneurs”.

The Case of Pixeon

Pixeon, a Brazilian company that pioneered the development of PACS – Picture Archiving and Communication Systems, headquartered in Florianópolis (SC), was the first company in its segment to receive financial support from Intel Capital. In 2012, it merged with Medical Systems, from São Bernardo do Campo, with a solid positioning in the clinical and laboratory management market and over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field, giving rise to Pixeon Medical Systems. The bold strategic decision placed Brazil in front of international and world-renowned players, paving the way for national technological development and growth opportunities for local professionals.

Roberto Ribeiro da Cruz, CEO of the company, participated in the ABES Conference 2013 to tell about this successful trajectory and give valuable tips to those who are also looking for funding sources to innovate, sharing his experience in the process of raising funds for innovation and growth, through lines of credit and promotion (FINEP/CNPQ) and investment funds, such as Intel Capital. He also addressed the main changes, challenges and results obtained after obtaining the funds. “It is an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and insights about the opportunities and challenges we face as entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs in the segment”.
