Gas distributor from Minas Gerais wants to expand operations and elected
the SAP system to meet industry demands

Gasmig, a distributor of natural gas piped in Minas Gerais, with a strong presence with large companies in the State, implemented the SAP IS-U CCS solution for commercial management and customer service to expand its operations, especially in the small business market and of residences. The goal is to connect and bill over 50 thousand customers by 2017. Founded in 1986 to be an energy alternative in the state of Minas Gerais, in less than a year, with the help of the CCS system, Gasmig consolidated its presence in 450 large customers, between industries, hospitals, shops, stations and thermal plants, and 1,250 residential customers.

“One of the pillars that support the company's growth strategy is precisely the optimization of the management of the service and billing processes of these customers”, highlights João Parreira Lima, the company's Telecommunications and Informatics manager. "For that, we needed to have a system recognized by the market, with features designed and developed specifically to meet the demands of the Utilities sector".

The replacement of the old Customer and Billing System by SAP IS-U CCS was also decided by Gasmig due to its capacity for managing and processing large volumes, “fundamental in the company's growth plans”, as explained by José Geraldo Veloso Moreira. The executive led the CITIUS project, created especially for this implementation.

In addition to the business management solution, SAP ERP, which is behind all of Gasmig's daily operations, SAP IS-U CCS already provides the promised benefits, including efficiency and control in billing processes, the ability to track information - which means the ability to identify the source of changes in system data - and more information security and effectiveness in customer service processes.

Rapid implementation and next steps

This project is considered by SAP as a milestone in the energy market due to the rapid implementation of the solution. “The SAP partner ecosystem is increasingly able to execute more agile and shorter implementations. The great knowledge of our partner Axxiom in SAP solutions and in the Utilities market and Gasmig's total commitment to the project were crucial to this achievement ”, evaluates the Sales Director for the Energy and Natural Resources sectors at SAP Brazil, Cristiano Lamberti .

Another highlight of the process was the maintenance of legacy and new systems, running in parallel, enabling implementation in stages. The first, in March 2014, activated the solution for billing large customers and intermediate customers; the second wave was specific to residential customers and the third and fourth waves, related to improvements, are in progress.

Once the implementation of SAP IS-U CCS is finalized, Gasmig plans to integrate the solution with the field services module, to optimize the management and planning of services such as connecting and disconnecting gas supplies, preventive maintenance and eventual maintenance of safety. “We are already evaluating new demands, which should be implemented later this year”, says Parreira.
