SAP Brasil has just completed a project carried out in conjunction with Fundação Amazonas Sustentável (FAS), a non-governmental and non-profit organization that works to promote sustainable development, environmental conservation and improvement in the quality of life of the fence. than 40,000 residents of 576 riverside and indigenous communities in the Amazon. With the help of SAP Brazil, FAS started using SAP Lumira, a technological solution that not only gave it the ability to analyze and visualize data, but was simple to use and implement, eliminating the need for high investments in infrastructure. and maintenance.

According to Virgílio Viana, general superintendent of FAS, the organization needed a solution that would allow for more agility and rigor in the analysis and evaluation of indicators and metrics. “Not only to optimize actions, but also to increase transparency”, says Virgílio. With SAP's Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) leadership, 80 SAP employees now rely on the SAP Lumira solution to analyze data and manage actions and investments in the region.

The Foundation's old system stored program data in a decentralized manner, making the analysis process more time-consuming. “The decentralization of information made it difficult not only to manage the projects themselves, but also to communicate with partners. In addition, Lumira allows us to ensure more transparency and efficiency in the use of resources and investments”, explains Virgílio.

FAS and SAP experts decided together that SAP Lumira would be the ideal solution to meet the institution's needs “It's a business intelligence tool that we call self-service: the customer defines the vision and metrics dashboards they want to have configured. From there, any user can access and analyze the information. No technical knowledge is required”, explains Rogério Ceccato, pre-sales manager at SAP Brazil.

SAP Lumira was donated to FAS by SAP as part of the project led by the CSR area. Conducted by three SAP professionals, 12 representatives from FAS project areas and three specialists from the integration partner Ramo Sistemas, the implementation was completed in four months. Experts consolidated all data into SAP Lumira in less than a month and set up ten dashboards for cloud visualization. “SAP Lumira running in the cloud ensures more stability and availability of the solution, in addition to implying less investment in infrastructure and simpler and more cost-effective maintenance”, says Renato Amaro, executive at SAP's analytical excellence center.

Currently, FAS employees and managers input all information about communities and projects directly into SAP Lumira. In addition to the ten initially configured dashboards, managers can easily create new views, establish indicators, metrics and data analysis options according to their needs. “Today, we have centralized information available for analysis in real time, even when we are talking about communities hours away by boat from the capital”, celebrates Viana.

“Data that previously took more than two weeks to consolidate are now viewed in real time, such as information collected in reports for Norway's Minister of Environment and Climate, Tine Sundtoft, visiting FAS in September. In addition to analyzing data and making projections”, says the executive. As a result, SAP Lumira allowed FAS to quickly consolidate and analyze data, ensuring more efficient and preventive actions. “We were also able to identify more efficient solutions to improve the indicators of income generation, health and education”, exemplifies Viana, noting that there are communities that are several weeks away by boat from the capital Manaus.

With SAP Lumira, FAS now has consolidated information about communities. Managers currently have complete visibility of who are the people assisted by the institution – how many are children, how many adults, what gender and the history of assistance in their social, health and educational development projects. “We know how many there are, where they are and what their real needs are. Lumira allows us to organize the data. In the Early Childhood Project, for example, we realized the need to ask volunteers to enter data into the system and follow up in real time. We also follow the evolution of the projects in detail, making increasingly correct decisions”, explains Viana. “With this, we optimize investments, prioritize actions and ensure the most efficient and effective service to the more than 40 thousand people benefited by FAS, in an area of 10.8 million hectares”, completes Viana.

“Seeing good results in a project like this, in an NGO with such an impacting work, is very gratifying. In addition to being a professional challenge, it is pleasant to see the satisfaction stamped on the faces of managers, due to the possibility of having information processed to guarantee better and faster decisions”, says Ceccato. With SAP Lumira stabilized and managers and users able to configure new views, indicators and metrics, according to the demands of FAS, to optimize the use of the solution, the proposal of the CSR area is to expand the use of SAP to support the management of foundation.
