Entity is the first to adopt Microsoft Azure and StorSimple solutions
and hopes to increase the collection of copyrights

Brasoftware has just signed a contract with Ecad (Central Collection and Distribution Office) to carry out the first implementation of Microsoft StorSimple in Latin America. The private, non-profit institution, which works in the centralization of collection and distribution of copyrights for public musical performance, has invested significantly in the Microsoft Azure platform to support the project.

Daily, Ecad has the need to record radio and TV programs, movies, ambient sound in gyms and other public environments to check if the copyright in relation to music is being respected. Marcos Eboli, the entity's IT Service Quality manager, explains that, with this project, Ecad hopes to improve its services, which in the last five years have increased the collection of copyrights by 182%. Eboli had the support of the support and telecom coordinator, Orlando Neto, in all stages of the technical evaluation.

Marcos Eboli recalls the partnership with PUC-Rio that took place a few years ago and which developed a system that automatically identifies songs played on 600 national radio stations. These audio recordings were archived in the Ecad data center, but in-house backup was becoming impractical, expensive and not agile in storing and retrieving information.

complete platform

But the bottleneck arose from the moment this system also started to meet the needs related to the content of TV channels. “We started offering the service to automatically capture and identify 48 channels, which generate around 45TB (terabytes) of information per year in our data center. For legal reasons, these files need to be stored for 6 years”, explains Eboli.

For this reason, Ecad looked for a content storage solution on the market that would guarantee quality even with the robustness of this system. “We evaluated several cloud and on-premises solutions in the market and identified Microsoft Azure as the most adhering to our business. Evaluating our work, Brasoftware also introduced us to Microsoft's StorSimple, which performs intelligent storage”, he says. The sum of the platforms was the guarantee of the project's effectiveness.

Tatiane Pereira, account manager at Brasoftware responsible for attending Ecad, after a few rounds of meetings, saw the StoreSimple solution as the choice that most adheres to her client's needs. The selection process included a visit to the Microsoft technology center in São Paulo, where they immersed themselves in the solution.

Thiago Santanna, solutions manager at Brasoftware, explains that, with Azure, Ecad gains low cost for storage with high availability, replication and guarantee of backup in the cloud, indefinitely. “A smart solution, StorSimple can be configured to create routines, identify files and send old recordings to Azure and keep only the most recent data. We are among Microsoft's pioneer partners in implementing this solution in Latin America”, he celebrates.

Return in a year and a half

Along with the solutions, Ecad also signed a first level support contract with Brasoftware for the use of StorSimple. With this project, the office hopes to increase data security, have the flexibility to access information with cloud backup, which can be downloaded, without the need for tape storage. This will also bring productivity gains for the team that will not have to deal with the high volume of storage.

The implementation of StorSimple should start in September this year and be completed in a month, however, the office will already start using the Azure platform. According to Marcos Eboli, Ecad invested US$200,000 in this project, with an expected ROI (return on investment) in about a year and a half.

“This was a four-handed project in partnership with Brasoftware, which knew how to evaluate our niche and indicate the best offers. The decision for Microsoft solutions is directly related to the technical competence of each of the reseller professionals. This team brought us peace of mind in making this investment”, concludes Marcos Eboli.
