Arcserve UDP solution allowed the company to perform mirrored backup storage in the cloud, a technology still little adopted in the northern region of the country

SESC Manaus, an institution with a fundamental role in the social development of the State in the areas of Health, Culture, Education, Leisure and Assistance in the Capital, has just achieved an important technological advance. With the help of Brasoftware, one of the most traditional technology providers in the market, the institution adopted the Arcserve UDP solution for the storage and protection of data in the cloud.

According to Sesc, one of the project's challenges was connected to the internet connection, a still challenging point in the northern region of the country. Although the network infrastructure has grown considerably in the last few years in this region, the internet connection still needs to be improved. Fiber cabling is often done through rivers and tributaries in the region, taking the connection to the municipalities in the interior. In such a scenario, data storage via the cloud could be a risky path.

To meet the needs of this customer, who until then kept their data “in house”, inside home servers, which generate maintenance and depreciation costs for the equipment, the solution chosen was Arcserve UDP, a platform that combines disaster recovery technologies , backup, replication and real global deduplication, in a unified solution that offers all the protection of data in the cloud, expanding or reducing the storage size, according to the customer's needs.

“The pandemic ended up bringing an extra challenge to this project, because in the bidding process, one of the requirements was that the implementation was carried out in person. But in view of the scenario, we carried out, in an unprecedented way, all the mapping of the internal environment and the hardware and software infrastructure of this client remotely. “, Says Alexandre Vilanova, Account Executive at Brasoftware. “In addition, we took extra care to ensure that the Sesc Manaus operation continued to function normally, with the same security of information. The synergy with the Sesc Manaus IT team was essential for the success of this implementation ”, details Felipe Ribeiro, Brasoftware Services Executive.

In three months, the project was completed and, in total, about 1 terabyte of data was migrated, without any prejudice to the original project. According to Wescley Rabelo, Information and Communication Technology Manager at SESC Manaus, the institution is already studying expanding the project, considering 5 terabytes of cloud backup. “The secret to the success of this project was the strong alignment that we established between our team and that of Brasoftware. The platform adopted added value, not only for the IT team but for the Institution as a whole ”, concludes the executive.
