The project's goal in this new phase is to train 10,000 people by December

On May 19, the new Brasil Mais TI project portal (www.brasilmaisti.com.br), developed by the Ministries of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and Education (MEC), under the technical coordination of the Association for the Promotion of Excellence in Brazilian Software – Softex and implemented by Gestum.

Accessed in more than 90 countries, Brasil Mais TI is a project that operates in three essential points of professional training: knowledge, training and opportunity. It is the 3rd largest free training program in the world (MOOC), offering more than 20 courses in more than 1,500 hours of class.

Among the courses available are Algorithm, in which 62% of the public have participated so far, Visual Communication for the Web and Java. According to research carried out by Gestum, 3% to 7% of Brazilians have an interest or vocation for the IT area, a potential of 3.6 to 8.4 million people who could work in the segment Brasil Mais TI trained in its pilot phase (2012-2013) 33 One thousand people. In this new stage, the goal is to train, by December, another 10 thousand and provide more than 100 thousand courses.

Another novelty on the site is the Personal and Professional Profile Test, a game that allows young people to assess their interest and knowledge of the IT market. Developed in partnership with Professor João Brandão, from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), the platform simulates a series of virtual interviews that guide young people towards the courses that best suit their profile.

“Its objective is to awaken the vocation and encourage the entry of new professionals in a sector that is undergoing a rapid growth process and considered strategic for Brazil. The job market in the IT area is very broad and salaries are also quite attractive. Another important and very positive point is that there is a strong demand for qualified professionals and this tends to increase in the coming years”, explains Ana Beatriz Pires, project manager at Softex.

The Thematic Section “Labour Market and IT Labor Training”, published at the end of last year by the Softex Observatory, the entity's intelligence, studies and research unit, points to an approximate deficit of 408,000 professionals in 2020. Today , Brazil is the 4th largest technology market in the world, representing US$169 billion in consumption, but exports only 2% of technology, a total of US$ 2 billion according to Softex Observatory estimates.
