Companies have until the 09/05th to present projects

BNDES published on March 24 the Public Call 01/16 to receive proposals for obtaining non-reimbursable financial support to carry out independent Technical Studies with the objective of carrying out a diagnosis and proposing public policies on the Internet of Things (Internet of Things - IoT).

The technical study should encourage cooperation and articulation between companies, sector institutions, public authorities, universities and research centers and will be supported with non-reimbursable resources from the BNDES' Project Structuring Fund, constituted with a portion of the Bank's profits.

Interested companies have up to May 9th for delivery of prior consultations. After that date, the BNDES will schedule a face-to-face session for them to present their proposals.

The Call justifies that the IoT will have a major impact on various sectors and contexts, “by making cities smarter, rationalizing and making production, logistics and transport of goods more flexible, providing remote monitoring of patients, allowing agribusiness to make better use of inputs, improve energy efficiency and expand access to financial sector services, among many other benefits.

The publication also cites several researches and studies that show the growth potential of the application of this concept, such as that of the BI Intelligence consultancy, which predicts that the number of devices connected to the internet will jump from about 10 billion in 2015 to 34 billion by 2020. , resulting in an average of more than 4 devices per person.

McKinsey estimates that by 2025 the IoT should generate worldwide revenues between U$ 3.9 trillion and US$ 11.1 trillion, contributing up to 11% of global GDP. “Another study points out that IoT could generate gains for governments worldwide in excess of US$ 4 trillion by 2022, considering cost savings and new revenues. In the estimation of the highest potential gains by country, Brazil appears in 9th place with an estimated potential of US$ 70 billion by 2022”, highlights the Call.

The document also mentions the study by ABES/IDC Brazilian Software Market – Overview and Trends, to highlight the relevance of the ICT sector, which ranked 5th in the world in 2014, moving US$ 158 billion. “This is an opportunity for Brazilian companies that can be leveraged by public policies based on the results of the proposed study, especially in the area of ICT, directly related to the theme, in which we ask researchers the following question: how to capitalize on this technological change in order to generate added value locally and productivity gains?”.
