BlackBerry Limited, the global mobile communications company, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire AtHoc, the crisis network communications company. AtHoc's software platform enables real-time exchange of critical information between people, devices and organizations during business continuity and life-saving operations. The transaction is expected to close in BlackBerry's third fiscal 2016 quarter and will be subject to customary closing conditions. 
 
The platform will integrate with BlackBerry's enterprise portfolio and trusted global network to provide customers with new capabilities for mission-critical protection, security and enterprise communications. The acquisition will allow AtHoc to expand its global presence, increase its sales and deliver new applications on a secure platform for mass communications. With these new applications, it would be possible, for example, to integrate AtHoc solutions with BBM Meetings during alert situations to provide live video feeds or broadcast messages, allowing real-time collaboration between leaders and decision makers.
 
AtHoc's Crisis Networked Communications Platform sends alerts to all types of devices – including iOS, Android, PC and Mac desktops, digital panels, radios, IP phones and terminals such as sirens, fire alarms and loudspeakers. -speakers. This facilitates the connection and exchange of information between individuals and organizations in the event of a crisis.
