Infrastructure software provider Bentley Systems announced the acquisition of Char Pointer, including its Topo Graph software, a field survey and earthmoving solution, as well as design for road and rail projects.

With the acquisition, Bentley aims to seize opportunities in Brazil in transport systems, such as measures announced by the government last year involving the release of R$ 133 billion in investments for road and rail projects, including growth of up to 10,000 kilometers of the network the country's railway, in addition to R$ 54.2 billion from the public-private financing unit for the modernization of seaports.

“The challenges Brazil faces in modernizing its roads are significant given that currently less than 20 percent of them are paved. And these challenges become even more important with the proximity of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio – events that will attract millions of extra visitors to Brazil and, as a result, may leave your system heavily congested,” said Malcom Walter, CEO of Bentley. For the executive, Brazil will be able to solve these challenges quickly and economically, surpassing other countries in the use of 3D information modeling to deliver a more consistent and high-performance transport infrastructure.

Char*Pointer Tecnologia developed topoGRAPH software to help civil engineers and infrastructure professionals in the process of collecting data generated by the total station, laser survey instruments and GPS devices. The software offers its users tools for creating drawings and plans, analyzing terrain models, calculating earthworks volumes, as well as designing roads and railways.
