An initiative called Orbi will be inaugurated in July and intends to connect the entire ecosystem of startups in Minas Gerais

Banco Intermedium, MRV and Localiza announce the creation of Órbi, a joint, non-profit initiative that seeks to foster innovation and entrepreneurship. The startup connection space, scheduled to open in July, will operate in an area of 1,200 square meters located on Avenida Antônio Carlos, in the Lagoinha neighborhood, in Belo Horizonte (MG). The joint investment in the initiative is approximately R$ 3 million.

Belo Horizonte has stood out as one of the main technological centers in the country, with a large number of technology companies and strong job creation in the sector. This ecosystem favorable to the development of technological businesses has been translated into several initiatives such as, for example, the formation of the San Pedro Valley (SPV), the city's startup ecosystem.

Orbi is the result of a joint creation between entrepreneurs, some startups from San Pedro Valley and the three sponsoring companies. The project will be a meeting point in Belo Horizonte to solve the gap for a place that connects this entire technological ecosystem, disseminates knowledge and helps in the development of startups. The initiative will have permanent and temporary work areas for startups, as well as space for courses, workshops and events.

According to João Vitor Menin, president of Banco Intermedium and creator of the project, Órbi will be launched by the three sponsoring companies, which have several initiatives in the area of innovation, to connect the Minas Gerais startup ecosystem and encourage the development of a cradle for new Business. “The mortality rates of startups are high in Brazil, we want to help revert this situation by attracting investments and helping to qualify these companies”, highlights the executive.

A resident startup program will be created by Orbi to initially receive 20 startups in the post-acceleration stage and that are already generating revenue. These companies will have permanent workspaces on site and will receive expert help to qualify for investments. The selection criteria for these companies are being defined and will be disclosed later.

“We are closing national and international partnerships with specialized companies to prepare a diagnosis of the current stage and a qualified business plan so that resident startups are able to receive resources and develop. We are going to show potential investors that we have startups with the potential to generate high impact and return on their investments”, highlights Menin. “We are also strengthening ties with universities and innovation centers that will help us create the pillar of entrepreneurial education and training for startups at Órbi”.

Orbi will also have 10 anchor startups, formed by large startups from Minas Gerais, who will be project partners by sharing their know-how and mentoring the smaller ones.
