With 15% of growth in hardware, software and service purchases, Bahia, Ceará and Pernambuco lead the ranking of the states that increased IT investments in 2012, according to the Brazil IT Opportunity Map Study, carried out by IDC. Then came Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande o Sul, both with an increase of 14%. Investment amounts were not disclosed.

Anderson Figueiredo, an analyst at IDC Brazil, attributes the result to investments made by local governments in IT, citing as an example the expansion in the Port of Suape, which pressures companies to modernize their IT infrastructure systems.

The executive predicts that Pernambuco, Ceará and Rio de Janeiro will be the states that will most buy IT in the coming years. In the case of Rio, in addition to the 2016 Olympics, the state has been receiving investments from companies that decided to install their research centers there, such as Petrobras, EMC and Microsoft.
